Eyelid Surgery
& Endoscopic Browlift (Blepharoplasty and
Forehead lift)
The
eyes are the focal point of the face,
and therefore can be a true marker of beauty when they look
fresh and youthful. As the face begins to age, the skin above
the upper eyelids start to sag and the lower lids become heavy
and form bags.Several
other things happen to the area around the eyes as the face
starts to age.The eyebrows and the cheeks begin to fall as a result of gravity.
The heavy eyebrows contribute to a tired appearance of the eyes.
Patient
Testimonial
The cheek drooping along
with a loss of fat in the face results in the skeletonization of
the bone under the eyes and the creation of a crease and dark
shadows, which make the eyes look hollow and sunken.
A careful approach to
each of these problems is important and Dr. Miller will take the time to
evaluate each point and give an ideal treatment plan that will
revitalize the eyes, which makes the entire face appear more youthful.
Let’s discuss each procedure from the eyebrows down to the cheeks.
1.
An
Endoscopic Browlift
is designed to reset the eyebrows at a higher, more youthful
location.It also takes
the heaviness off the outer part of the eyelids and reduces the
amount of skin that has to be removed during upper eyelid surgery. The endoscopic browlift is performed through tiny incisions
behind the hairline. An endoscope is inserted, the brow is released, and then
fixed at a higher location.
This provides a long lasting and natural result without using the
long incisions across the top of the head that were commonplace in
the past.Let’s look at
an example:
This patient had
endoscopic browlift and upper eyelid surgery.Note how the extreme heaviness
on the outer part of the eyelid was nicely corrected with these
procedures.
2.
An Upper
Lid Blepharoplasty
(upper eyelid lift or upper eyelid surgery) is a very common
procedure that treats the heavy skin on the upper lids.
An incision is hidden in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and
the excess skin is removed.
The eyelid is then contoured and the incision is closed. The procedure is not painful and patients usually incur only
mild swelling or bruising for a week. The result is a natural rejuvenation of the upper lids that
brighten the entire face as shown in the picture below.
Notice the
heavy upper lid skin before the procedure and the nice upper lid
crease
produced after the surgery.
Now eye shadow can be applied easily.
3.
Lower Lid
Blepharoplasty
(lower eyelid lift or lower eyelid surgery) is a simple procedure
that reduces the bags under the eyes. These bags are actually fat pockets that fall forward to cause
shadowing and heaviness under the eyes.A small incision is made inside the eyelid to reduce the amount
of fat present. If some excess skin is present either the laser is used
to tighten the skin or a small skin excision is carried out.Recovery is usually painless with mild swelling and the patient
can often return to work in a week.
This
patient had heavy bags under the eyes that were nicely smoothed out.
4.
Cheeklift
and
Fat Injection
– As the cheeks fall during the aging process, the bony rim
under the eyes becomes more noticeable, often times forming a groove
with shadowing called the tear trough.
In addition to removing some fat from under the eyes, it is often
important to replace some fat in the groove under the eyes. This way, a smooth, natural contour is given to the lower
eyelid-cheek complex, which revitalizes the midface. This improvement can be further enhanced by lifting the cheeks
with a
Threadlift
to help return a youthful fullness to the cheeks.
