Breast Lift With Implants Associates in Plastic Surgery Dr. Harry T. Haramis

A breast lift with implants, also known as an augmentation-mastopexy, is a procedure designed to help physically lift and reposition the breasts while simultaneously enhancing their volume and shape. Drooping breasts can be caused by many factors, such as weight loss, pregnancy, aging, breastfeeding, and more. The skin, connective tissue, ligaments, and ducts within the breasts can stretch, failing to retract once volume decreases. (1) A breast lift with implants can help restore a more youthful contour and can be performed using customizable techniques.

About Breast Lifts with Implants

A breast lift with implants is a procedure that uses artificial implants to increase the size of the breasts while excising excess tissue to help physically reposition the breasts to a higher position on the chest. Many different types of breast implants can be utilized in this procedure, including saline, silicone, and gummy bear implants. Additionally, implants can be either smooth or textured. (2) After learning more about each patient’s concerns and aesthetic goals, Dr. Haramis will recommend the best type of implant for them.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are a type of artificial breast implant composed of a silicone shell and a sterile saltwater filling. These implants can either be inserted pre-filled or empty into the chest and inflated once positioned. These implants are firmer to the touch but, if placed empty, require smaller incisions.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are a second type of implant that is formulated using a silicone shell and cohesive silicone gel. These implants are softer to the touch and may arrive either tear-shaped or round to mimic the natural look and feel of breast tissue. There is a subset of silicone implants called gummy bear implants that are filled with a highly viscous gel.

Suitable Candidates

Candidates interested in a breast lift with augmentation are those experiencing drooping or sagging breasts who wish to restore a more lifted appearance, as well as enhance the fullness of their breasts.

All candidates interested in a breast lift with implants should be in good overall health and free from any underlying medical conditions. Each patient should also hold realistic expectations regarding what this procedure can achieve. Patients should be nonsmokers or willing to quit until they are fully healed. Dr. Haramis will determine each patient’s candidacy at their consultation.

Personal Consultation

Each patient is asked to attend a personal consultation at any one of our New Jersey offices before their procedure. This appointment not only allows our team to meet each patient but also to better understand how we can help each patient achieve their ideal aesthetic. Dr. Haramis will perform a medical examination to evaluate the condition of each patient’s breasts before discussing their concerns and desired results. After determining their candidacy, Dr. Haramis will craft each patient’s treatment plan, recommending the best type of implant and surgical strategies to address their concerns. Pre and post-operative instructions will also be provided, as well as a comprehensive quote. Patients should come prepared to ask questions and converse openly about their aesthetic goals, as this consultation is time dedicated specifically to them and their personalized procedure.

Preparation

Dr. Haramis will provide each patient with a set of pre-operative instructions at their personal consultation to help them prepare for their procedure. It is crucial to follow each instruction to ensure a smooth recovery and the most ideal results.

Patients should avoid taking certain medications and supplements as advised by Dr. Haramis, typically those with blood-thinning properties. Those who smoke will need to cease doing so several weeks before their appointment, as nicotine and tobacco may inhibit healing. Alcohol should also be avoided several days before and after the procedure. Logistically, patients will need to arrange for any time they need away from work, as well as transportation home after their procedure.

Procedure

Each patient’s procedure will begin with the cleansing and sterilization of their skin. Either general anesthesia or IV sedation will be administered to each patient to ensure a comfortable procedure. Dr. Haramis will then make an incision using one of three techniques:

  • Circumareolar Mastopexy: Also known as the “donut incision,” this technique places a circular incision around the border of the areola. This technique is ideal for patients who want a more subtle enhancement, with any scarring blending in with the pigmented skin of the areola. (3)
  • Vertical Mastopexy: This technique requires two incisions, one around the perimeter of the areola and a second one extending down towards the breast crease. This technique is ideal for tightening one’s skin and can also be referred to as a “lollipop incision.”
  • Wise Pattern Mastopexy: The wise pattern can also be referred to as the anchor pattern or inverted T pattern. This strategy is similar to the vertical mastopexy, but adds a third incision at the bottom of the breast crease that extends horizontally. This strategy is typically reserved for more extensive corrections.

After making the appropriate incision, Dr. Haramis will lift the breasts and remove excess skin. He will then insert the breast implants either above or below the pectoral muscle before carefully closing the incisions.

Recovery

A breast lift with augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning each patient will be released home on the same day as their appointment. Patients will need to take time away from work and other social commitments to focus on resting.

Dr. Haramis will place a bandage and wrap over each patient’s chest to help protect and maintain their new curves. It is common to experience some swelling, bruising, or discomfort, but this can be managed through the use of medications under the guidance of our team. Most patients can return to work within 10 days, depending on the nature of their careers, but should avoid physical activity and other strenuous tasks for several weeks. The breasts may initially appear to be placed too high, but they will gradually settle into a more natural placement throughout recovery. Further postoperative instructions will be provided at each patient’s consultation.

Patients will be able to enjoy a more lifted, contoured chest and an overall more flattering silhouette. Dr. Haramis can also reshape or reposition the nipple-areolar complex for a more balanced appearance. Additionally, patients will be able to enjoy an improvement in the size and volume of their breasts.

Corresponding Procedures

Many procedures may be performed to complement the results of a breast lift with implants, one of the most popular being our mommy makeover! A mommy makeover is a combination of treatments to help restore various parts of the body after pregnancy. This may include a combination of any of the following procedures:

  • Tummy Tuck: Tummy tuck procedures help eliminate excess skin and tissue around the abdomen while simultaneously strengthening and tightening the abdominal muscles. This procedure can also be referred to as an abdominoplasty and is one of the most widely performed procedures in the country.
  • Liposuction: Liposuction is a body-contouring procedure designed to help remove stubborn fat deposits from various parts of the body. This treatment uses a piece of equipment called a cannula to gently loosen and suction out fat cells.
  • Breast Lift: A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure that aims to reposition the breasts to reduce sagging and create a more desirable appearance. This procedure can also be performed to reshape the areola and nipples.
  • Breast Augmentation: A breast augmentation can be performed to enhance the size, shape, and volume of the breasts through the use of artificial implants. Implants can come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and materials, with each offering different advantages.
