Candidates
Any individual who is dissatisfied with the results of a previous facelift is welcome to consider a revision facelift. Dissatisfaction usually stems from issues like skin laxity, asymmetry, or a lack of longevity with results; however, each patient’s reasons differ. All prospective candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations. Dr. Miller typically recommends waiting at least 6-12 months after your previous facelift to undergo a revision. (3) It is important that you are fully recovered with the final results. (2) Ultimately, all patients will attend a consultation with Dr. Miller to determine their candidacy.

Preparation
Preparing for a revision facelift will be similar to the process you underwent while preparing for your initial facelift. You will likely need to cease certain medications and supplements, especially those with blood-thinning properties, as well as nicotine and alcohol. We also ask that you arrange assistance and transportation home. Preparation instructions may vary for each patient depending on the specifics of their revision and their medical history, so please closely follow all instructions Dr. Miller provides.
Procedure
For your comfort during your surgery, you will receive general anesthesia or sedation with a local anesthetic. Dr. Miller will make incisions to gain access to your underlying facial tissues. These incisions often follow the scars left by the original procedure, but in some cases, he may make new ones behind the ears, along the scalp, or elsewhere. Incision technique and placement degree of sagging and the issues you wish to address. After Dr. Miller makes the necessary incisions, he will lift the underlying muscles and connective tissues, reposition them, and trim away excess skin. If volume loss is a concern, Dr. Miller can use fat grafting to provide additional volume. After making the necessary adjustments, Dr. Miller will redrape the skin and suture your incisions. The revision facelift generally takes between two to four hours, depending on its complexity and whether any additional procedures are included in your treatment plan.
Recovery
Proper post-operative care is vital for effective healing and optimal results. You can expect some swelling, bruising, and minor discomfort initially, though these effects typically resolve within a few weeks. We recommend that patients keep their heads elevated while resting. Dr. Miller may prescribe pain medications to enhance your comfort during your recovery. We also advise limiting their physical activity until Dr. Miller provides clearance. Most patients return to normal activities approximately two to three weeks post-surgery, although complete healing may take longer.
Results
After fully healing, you will see noticeable improvements in facial firmness, contour, and overall appearance. Patients often report a renewed sense of confidence, with an appearance that reflects a more youthful and energized look.
Corresponding Procedures
Facelifts, both revisional and initial, effectively pair with other facial rejuvenation procedures to offer patients comprehensive rejuvenation.
Brow Lift
A facelift typically only addresses the lower third of the face and surrounding regions. Patients looking to achieve more comprehensive rejuvenation often undergo a brow lift alongside their facelift. This procedure targets wrinkles and skin laxity in the forehead, repositioning the brows and removing excess skin to create a youthful, more alert look.
Neck Lift
Neck lifts are also commonly performed alongside facelifts. Because the neck and face age as a unit, it is often beneficial to undergo these procedures together. A neck lift is effective for addressing lax skin in the neck, especially for patients struggling with the appearance of a ‘turkey neck’ or neck banding—the thickening of the platysma muscle in the neck. Dr. Miller can also incorporate neck liposuction if stubborn fat is a concern.
Mini Facelift
For younger patients, Dr. Miller also specializes in mini facelifts. These procedures are designed to effectively address earlier signs of aging in the face. In some cases, undergoing a mini facelift earlier on can negate the need for a full facelift later on.
Combining procedures is an effective way to address multiple issues through one treatment session, which can streamline your overall recovery time. If you are interested in exploring your combination options, please discuss your aesthetic goals with Dr. Miller during your personal consultation.
