Preparation

  • In the weeks leading up to your procedure, you should maintain a stable weight and cease use of any nicotine products.
  • Refrain from alcohol and suspend use of any blood-thinning medications or supplements.
  • Secure transportation to and from the surgical center.
  • Plan for time off from work to recuperate.
  • Arrange for assistance as you heal.

Procedure

You will be given anesthesia to ensure your comfort. I will begin your procedure with liposuction first. I will make small, discreet incisions in the targeted abdominal regions and insert a cannula (surgical tube), which will break up and suction away fat, delicately sculpting smoother contours along the waistline and other indicated areas.

Once fat removal is complete, I will proceed with the tummy tuck portion of the procedure. I will place an incision low on the abdomen, allowing for a very discreet scar. Through this incision, I remove excess skin and tighten the abdominal muscles with permanent stitches before redraping the skin over the area with a smooth closure, creating a firmer, stronger-looking tummy. I use permanent stitches because I have found that dissolvable stitches yield less stable results.

Recovery

Recovery from a tummy tuck with liposuction will vary for each patient, but most can return to light activities within one to two weeks. Patients will need to avoid strenuous activity and exercise until I give them clearance. Wearing compression garments is essential, as they help minimize swelling and provide support during healing. I encourage walking soon after surgery to promote healthy circulation. Make sure to attend all follow-up appointments so that I can monitor your progress, track your recovery, and address any questions you may have.
