The buttocks are a part of the body that has had a lot of attention in the media lately. Whether it is a photograph in a magazine or a shapely actress or entertainer, the buttocks are a part of the body where great shape matters.
However, the buttocks are not easily enlarged by weight training or diet. Individuals who wish to enlarge, lift, and shape the buttock mounds have two main procedures available to them – buttock implants or our Brazilian butt lift.
At Associates in Plastic Surgery, our plastic surgeons have decades of experience in buttock augmentation and can help you love your new backside.
A physician at Associates in Plastic Surgery in New Jersey would be pleased to discuss options for enhancing your buttocks during an initial consultation. Please call 732-548-3200 today.
What is a Brazilian butt lift?
The Brazilian butt lift starts with a liposuction procedure. Donor fat is taken from areas of the body where it is unwanted, such as the hips, belly or thighs. It is then purified and sterilized for transfer. The harvested fat is injected back into the buttocks to add more volume. The remaining fat is frozen and can be used for injections at a later date should you desire them.
The Brazilian butt lift has gained significantly in popularity over the last few years. This is mainly because the procedure is easier than body contouring with buttock implants and the rear end can be enhanced gradually as time goes on.
What makes a Brazilian Butt Lift so desirable?
A Brazilian butt lift procedure is very desirable because of the fact that the added volume comes from your own fat. This means that the Brazilian butt lift offers the following benefits:
- Natural look and feel
- No risk of an allergic reaction
- Ability to have more injected at any time
During recovery, a little bruising and swelling are to be expected, but since the incision is tiny, recovery should be no more than 7-10 days. While some of the fat can be reabsorbed, much of the fat can remain and develop a blood supply.
What are buttock implants?
Buttock implant surgery is a little more involved than the Brazilian butt lift, but patients like the significant and long-lasting results that can be achieved. The preoperative consultation is vitally important because our surgeons must examine and discuss both the position and size of the implants that you’re interested in. That way, the result can be both optimal for your desires and natural-appearing at the same time.
During your buttock implants procedure, a 2-3-inch incision is made between the buttocks in the midline. The buttock muscle is lifted and a pocket is made just large enough for the implant. The implant is then inserted and the other side is completed. After inspecting for symmetry, the incisions are closed with fine, dissolving sutures followed by taping for further support.
During recovery, the dressing needs to stay dry for two weeks and pressure should not be placed on the butt during this time. Strenuous activity should be avoided for one month. The incisions will be somewhat firm and pink for a few weeks, but will fade over the next several months. The benefit is that once the implants are well healed in place, the results will last.
What is a Buttock Threadlift?
The Buttock Threadlift is a quick and simple procedure that can be done while the patient is awake. Under local anesthesia, long stitches are placed through a tiny incision on each side that grab the buttock tissue and lift it up.
After three months, the small incision can be reopened and the stitches tightened further to provide a long-term result. Recovery and pain are minimal after this procedure.
What are the benefits of butt augmentation?
- A more attractive angle of projection in the rear end
- Firmer, fuller contours in the buttocks
- A more feminine, rounded physique
- Enhanced wardrobe options
- Improved self-image
- Natural-looking results

How much fat is removed during a Brazilian butt lift?
You and your doctor will decide on the amount of fat to be transferred during your private consultation. We will evaluate your physique to ensure there is ample donor fat to draw from. If there isn’t, then we may recommend butt augmentation using implants. Not all the fat extracted from the donor areas will survive in the buttocks, but enough fat will be present to create naturally enhanced curves that boost your self-confidence.
Can I get a Brazilian butt lift if I plan to get pregnant later?
A Brazilian butt lift can be performed either before or after you have children. If you undergo the procedure and then gain over 30 pounds after pregnancy, it is possible that this will affect your final results. If you are planning to get pregnant in the near future, let our team know during your consultation so that we can discuss your options in depth.
How soon can I return to work after butt implants?
Each client will recover at a different rate, based on their overall health, age and healing ability. Most clients can expect to return to work within 7-10 days. If your job is physically demanding, you may need to take more time off. We will provide you with a personalized recovery timeline after your procedure.
Can butt implants rupture?
Unlike breast implants that are filled with cohesive gel, butt implants are usually made using solid silicone, so they do not contain fluids that could escape. The implants come in many shapes and sizes and can be customized to your unique figure.
