Our highly experienced, board certified plastic surgeons serve Edison, Marlboro, Montclair, and Warren, NJ
There are many different types of injectable facial fillers that can be used for wrinkles, folds in the face, and the lips, as evidenced by the large array of advertising campaigns in magazines and on television.
At Associates in Plastic Surgery in New Jersey, you can be assured that we only use materials that are well-tested and scientifically shown to work. We do not use gimmick procedures to just get patients in the door.
Our New Jersey facial fillers are most commonly used for the folds between the nose and lips (nasolabial, NL folds, or laugh lines) and between the lips and chin (labiomandibular, LM folds, or drool lines) as a way of replenishing lost volume.
As we age, two things typically happen to the midface. First, the cheeks fall as a result of gravity, and second, you lose fat volume in the areas of the NL and LM folds. Wrinkle removal with injectable fillers is quick and painless. The different materials used to replenish the lost volume are:
1. Juvederm, Bellatero, Restylane, Voluma, Bellafil are all hyaluronic acid products. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin, so no skin allergy test is needed. These products are typically used to fill the NL and LM folds, as well as other wrinkles on the face. They can also be used to enhance the lips and to fill the crease that sometimes forms under the eye (the tear trough). Since this is a very natural substance, you don’t have to worry about side effects, and the results can last anywhere from 6-8 months.
2. Radiesse is a formulation of calcium hydroxyapitite, which is also a common substance in the body that is nonreactive. It is utilized to fill in the NL and LM folds as well as the cheeks. It produces a fuller result than Restylane and may last up to a year.
3. Sculptra is Poly-L-lactic acid that works within the deep dermis to replace lost collagen. It can be used in the nasolabial folds as well as other areas on the face, such as hollow cheeks or temporal regions. The average number of injections is three and the results can last up to two years.
4. Fat can be harvested from areas such as the love handles or abdomen and processed for injection. Your fat can then be injected into the NL and LM folds, the cheeks, lips, and the hollow tear troughs under the eyes. Remaining fat is then conveniently frozen and stored for subsequent injections that will build nice, natural, long lasting results.
5. PRP injections use your own blood for a natural rejuvenation that doesn't require any chemicals, drugs, or surgery. We will extract the platelets from your blood, which contain energy and growth factors to repair damage and stimulate new collagen growth in any part of the body. It works especially well for the skin, and is a quick procedure that takes only around 15 minutes. We recommend three sessions spaced every two weeks for optimal results.
Facial Fillers or Facial Surgery: What’s Right for You?
Facial (dermal) fillers can restore the subcutaneous fat lost due to aging, smoothing lines and folds, and treating a gaunt or hollowed facial appearance.
This treatment can provide significant relief from thin skin that is often the first to show wrinkles and creases on cheeks, chin, and from nose to mouth. Fillers may delay the need for a full facelift. Facial fillers can plump, enhance, soften and minimize the visible effects of aging skin. Treatment with dermal fillers is minimally invasive, requires only a few minutes to perform, and requires little to no recovery time.
It must be understood that fillers are temporary treatments and require re-treatment to maintain the smoother, more youthful look in the years ahead. Depending upon individual requirements and the type of dermal filler used, a single visit can provide results that last from six months up to a few years. For many of our patients, treatment with facial fillers helps them look young and refreshed without the need to have a surgical procedure.
Facial Surgery: Facelift, Eyelid Surgery, Brow Lift
Facial surgery such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, a brow lift or a combination of procedures can produce a truly incredible facial rejuvenation, but is surgery, requiring recovery time. A patient with extensive facial sagging, drooping jowls, or other issue may need to undergo this procedure to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Contact us to schedule an appointment and we will answer your questions and work closely with you to develop a treatment plan to help you look as young as you feel. Whether surgical or non-surgical, you can trust our plastic surgeons to perform your facial enhancement with a high level of skill, and meticulous care – for beautiful results.
Facial Enhancement with Fillers: Look Younger in Minutes
The human face is a living art form and no two faces are alike. Our highly-rated plastic surgeons are board certified and have years of experience helping our New Jersey clients achieve the aesthetic result they have dreamed of. It takes more than surgical skill and science to enhance beauty, it is also an art, requiring a deep sense of beauty and the techniques necessary to achieve a beautiful result. On your initial consultation, one of our physicians will discuss all of the facial filler options and surgical procedures most appropriate to achieve the facial rejuvenation you envision.
The Process: Before and After
Facial fillers such as Restylane, Juvéderm, and Radiesse, allow you to see instant results, and can be achieved the same day of your consultation. A numbing topical cream minimizes pain, so the filler can be injected without causing discomfort. Some fillers contain lidocaine for even more comfort. You might experience a minor swelling or redness at the injection site that abates in less than a day.
You may be asked to abstain from certain medications and supplements a week prior to your appointment. These can include aspirin, ibuprofen, Omega-3 fatty acids and others.
Occasionally, there may be some minor temporary bruising, which is easily covered with makeup. The results appear smooth and natural. Our clients report that they love seeing their new look in the mirror!
Rarely, a small bump may appear at the injection site that easily resolves with light massage. The minimally-invasive procedure provides natural-looking facial rejuvenation in a short appointment.
Recovery time varies depending upon each client’s procedure but to minimize swelling and bruising, it is best to take it easy for a few days. Take a break from yoga or the gym and relax with a cup of tea and a book! While you will likely see results immediately, the final results can take up to two weeks to be fully revealed.
Speed your recovery by following our aftercare instructions, which can include:
- Keep your elevated and upright for few hours afterwards
- Avoid rubbing or applying pressure to the treated area
- Sleeping on the first night with your head elevated
- Avoid other facial treatments for a day or two
As the use of facial fillers is relatively gentle, your results should fast and effective. Some people may experience brief issues such as a puffy look, bruising, temporary redness/numbness, slight hardness under the injection sites and hypersensitivity. Gentle massage or icing can revert these issues in a few hours and all unwanted reactions should disappear within two days. Side effects of any kind are usually minor, especially considering what a striking effect it can have on your beauty.
The stunning improvements achieved with facial fillers at Associates in Plastic Surgery has made these treatments very popular with our patients.
Procedure Description & Healing Process
Our physicians will discuss all of the facial fillers in NJ options with you. Most procedures such as Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, collagen, or silicone can be done on the day of your consultation. A numbing injection minimizes any pain, and then the injection is carried out. Usually some swelling will occur for less than a day.
Occasionally, you will get some minor bruising, which can be covered with makeup. The injectable should look smooth and natural, and rarely a small bump may be present that will resolve with massage of the area. The minimally-invasive procedure provides natural-looking wrinkle removal in a short amount of time.
The Vampire Facial
The vampire facial can be combined with other non-invasive facial rejuvenation techniques to enhance your skin tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines, shrink pores and bring a fresh, youthful glow to your facial skin. The vampire facial is effective on certain facial areas where other injectables may not be an appropriate treatment. By using your body’s own naturally-occurring growth factors in PRP and a process called microneedling your skin is stimulated to regenerate.
How Does a Vampire Facial Work?
First, microneedling is done on the target area with the use of an instrument that contains a small group of tiny needles that create minor perforations in the skin, to trigger the skin’s natural healing process. Then, PRP, or platelet rich plasma, which is created from a small amount of your own blood, is administered. The platelets are separated to be concentrated, after which the PRP is applied to your skin to enhance its natural ability to heal, refresh, and regenerate.
Facial Rejuvenation with a Vampire Facial
Since the vampire facial utilizes your body’s own platelets with natural regenerative abilities, there is nothing synthetic being put in your body, and nothing foreign that your body may react to or reject. The growth factors from the platelets enhance your body’s natural ability to heal. This combined with the microneedling elicits the production of collagen and elastin in your skin, leaving your face looking smoother, firmer and more youthful.
Non-Invasive Regenerative Treatment: Vampire Facial
There is minimal downtime associated with the vampire facial, as it is non-invasive. You may experience some redness or swelling that will dissipate within the first few days. During which time your skin will be healing and regenerating, producing new collagen and elastin, and looking healthier and more youthful day by day.
As the tissues regenerate, you’ll notice a more even texture, smaller pores, as well as firmer and suppler skin. The vampire facial requires no incisions, just tiny micro-injuries created by the microneedling procedure, so there is minimal downtime and few side effects. It is a premier option for facial rejuvenation for those who want to avoid invasive surgery or are hesitant about trying other fillers. The vampire facial is highly customizable and can be used with other techniques to restore and rejuvenate skin quality – naturally.
