Your Body and Self Confidence
It can be difficult for women who have had children or due to aging, have lost the supple skin elasticity that made the breasts look firm and fresh. This condition affects feelings of confidence in body image and can be a constant source of unhappiness. At Associates in Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons provide you with the opportunity to restore your breasts to a firm, lovely, youthful look with our NJ breast lift. Some may choose breast augmentation as part of the procedure, while others do not need to add volume, but merely require a procedure to reshape existing breast tissue and remove stretched skin so your breasts once again are firm, lovely, and youthful.
Breast Lift Procedure Steps
A breast lift, in medical terms a “mastopexy,” is a surgical procedure to address droopy, saggy breasts and restore a fresh, youthful appearance. The steps of the procedure are generally as follows:
- A private consultation to determine the extent of the surgical procedure needed.
- Surgery date set.
- The surgical plan is established, using one of the various incision options, based on patient need.
- The patient is put under anesthesia.
- The incisions are placed, the existing breast tissue reshaped, and excess drooping skin removed.
- For patients requiring a more extensive resculpting, the nipple structure may be moved, or nipple shape and size altered. This procedure typically does not affect the ability to breastfeed in the future.
- The incisions are carefully sutured, so the incisions heal smoothly.
- The patient is allowed to recover from the procedure, and in most cases can then be driven home by a friend or family member.

Recovery from a Breast Lift
As our NJ breast lift is a major surgery, you will need to plan for your recovery and have someone stay with you at least for the first 24 hours. In the initial stage of recovery, it is normal to feel some discomfort and have some swelling and bruising. You will be prescribed oral pain medication to which manages any pain or discomfort during the first days after surgery. You will be wearing a soft bra to keep your new breasts in place until the incisions have sufficiently healed and the restored breasts have settled into position.
Plan to take at least one week off work or other activities – you will need to rest so the body can heal. You should only perform gentle physical activities, typically walks. You will be restricted from lifting, raising your arms above your head, or other upper body motions for some days. We provide each of our patients with specific aftercare instructions, and closely monitor them throughout recovery.
Breast Lift Surgery after Weight Loss
Many patients come to us after losing a significant quantity of weight, whether through bariatric surgery or naturally with diet and exercise. As the added weight included increased breast size, once the weight is lost – which is a great accomplishment – the breasts can now droop and sag.
Many women who have taken successfully lost excess pounds are left feeling dismayed at how the breasts appear. A breast lift, or a more extensive surgical procedure for full body contouring, can resolve these issues fully. We help women who have achieved their weight loss goals gain the full benefits with breast lift surgery.
